Give Something Back

Welcome to Iceland, the country you've decided to call home for the next few months. We suspect and hope that you've read all about what we want to do for you with our events, our offers and and amazing trips but now we want to give you an oppertunity to give something back. It doesn't involve any money, all we want you to do is read these lines and think about how you can give back to the community you are now a part of.

Recycle - Reduce - Reuse

As you will probably soon realize, Icelandic people in general are not the front runners when it comes to environmental awareness. The green movement is growing stronger though and with the ever so popular kreppa, recycling and shopping locally is becoming cool again. Those of you who come from countries where recycling is a way of living can set a good example by doing it while your here too and not forget about these important issues just because you're abroad. For more information on recycling, please visit the website of Sorpa waste managment.

Make new friends by being a friend

If you want to do more good, you can think about becoming a volunteer for the Red Cross. They have all kinds of different projects going on and they don't mind your limited knowledge of Icelandic. You can help out with the Red Cross second hand stores, work with immigrants or locals in need and so forth. Not only will you be helping those in need, it's also a great oppertunity to meet more locals and hopefully make new friends. Visit the Redcross website for more information and if you don't know what to do, you can also contact us and we'll do what we can to help you.

See beyond borders

If you want to help the environment you can give a thought to becoming a SEEDS volunteer. SEEDS in Iceland focus mostly on environmental issues and organize workcamps around the country where participants dedidcate their time to help Icelandic communities clean and better their enviroment. To learn more about SEEDS, please visit their website.

This page is an ongoing process. If you have something else you think should be here or you have any ideas on how ESN and you can do some good, don't hesitate to contact us and we'll try to make it happen.
